Planning consent was granted today for a large wind turbine on the outskirts of Hastings, as part of the new Enviro21 Innovation Parks.
The two mega-watt wind turbine, to be erected on the 3.47 hectare South Queensway site, could generate electricity equivalent to the power required for 1000 homes, as the site has an excellent wind profile.
"The turbine will significantly contribute to this development being carbon neutral," says John Shaw of Coastal Innovation, the company developing the parks. "We will be able to generate enough power to match the energy used by both South Queensway Innovation Park and the future development at North Queensway."
The Enviro21 Innovation Park at South Queensway is designed to attract companies from the growing environmental technologies sector and others concerned about doing business sustainably. The Park aims to meet ambitious environmental targets, using the latest techniques and materials to maximise natural resources and renewable energy. The first business units will be available from January 2010 and the wind turbine will be erected in Spring 2010.
